Ear correction

The correction of a pronounced ear deformity is becoming increasingly important with regard to psychological stress, emotional trauma and behavioral problems in children. For this reason, it is recommended that the surgery should be planned before starting primary school, where children’s behavior can cause major trauma.

Since 80% of ear development is completed at 5 years of age, surgery should not be scheduled before that age. For this reason, it is the most appropriate time to perform an operation shortly before the age of 5 and the start of school. The purpose of otoplastic surgery is to achieve a natural ear appearance by causing minimal tissue trauma. For this reason, planning is mostly done with permanent sutures and in some cases with additional cartilage cutting techniques. In this operation, by reducing the angle of the ear cup with the head, the folds of the ear cup are formed and shaped.

The phase before and after the operation

The operation is performed under general anesthesia in children and under local anesthesia in adults. It takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. An incision is made in the crease behind the ear. These incisions provide access to the ear cartilage, and the melting sutures placed here create normal ear folds and ear openings. The sutures are placed to hide the curvature behind the ear. You will only have scars in this area after the operation. You will be discharged the same day after the operation. After your check-up is completed the next day, you can go back to your everyday life. It is useful to wear the headband for the first 15 days, day and night. You should be careful not to lie on your ears. After 10 days, the threads are pulled behind your ear.
